The Wesley Pegoda Memorial Scholarship
Foundation is hosting its Fifth Annual Trail
Ride, Auction, & Dance on May 1st, 2010
The events help raise money for college
scholarships given to seniors at Groveton
High School in Groveton, Texas and
Centerville High School located on Hwy 94
between Groveton and Apple Springs, Texas.
Wesley Pegoda was a 2005 Centerville High
School graduate. His first love was his
family and friends but basketball was a very
close second. He played the game throughout
his high school years and worked hard to
improve. The hard work paid off and he was
voted the District’s Most Valuable Player
(MVP) his senior year, an award voted and
given by the coaches of the district. The
attitude and character he displayed on and
off the basketball court was inspiring.
Wesley also participated in cross country
track, golf, and baseball when they were
offered. He was an FFA and 4-H member and
showed livestock at the county fair, all the
while maintaining good grades. During his
senior year he was voted “Best Personality”,
“Most Friendliest”, and “Mr. Centerville”.
Wesley wore many hats; he was a loving son,
brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin,
and friend. Those of us who were privileged
to have known him were truly blessed by his
sense of humor, his smile, his generosity,
his kindness, and most of all his love.
On September 18, 2005 Wesley was involved in
a tragic auto accident that took his life.
Even in death he continued to give of
himself. His organs were donated to save
lives. So, in our desire to keep his spirit
alive his family and friends have started a
scholarship foundation in his honor.
We are a non-profit organization so 100% of
the proceeds will go toward the 2010
scholarships and the endowment fund.
The last three
years we have given $19,000 in scholarships
and have put a little more than $17,000 into
the endowment fund. It is our desire that
the Wesley Pegoda Memorial
Scholarship Foundation become endowed and
continues beyond our lives helping seniors
fulfill their educational dreams.
We urge everyone to attend the Trail Ride,
Auction, and Dance. If you cannot attend we
will gladly accept any monetary donation or
items that can be auctioned before the
Dance.
We ask that all contributions, employee and
corporate, be in by May 1st so that we may
let the seniors know the scholarship
amount. Your contribution can be mailed to
